The second edition of the 4K Summit in Seville will be held on November 10 and 11, 2016.

This international summit will once again unite Ultra High Definition content producers and 4K technology experts.

The first 4K Summit, which was held in Seville on November 5 and 6, brought together professionals from twenty countries, through companies, professionals and attendees, from Japan, Korea, the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Venezuela, Argentina, Finland, Germany, Norway, Great Britain, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Holland, Portugal, Switzerland, Italy and Spain.

World leaders in the field such as Thierry Fautier, president of the UHD Forum; Philip Laven of DVB Project or Andrew King, of the BBC; In addition to representatives of the main companies in the sector such as RTVE, Hispasat, EVS, Sony, Dolby, Avid and Grass Valley, to name a few, they debated the viability of this technology, which is already a reality for them.

All the experts agreed on the importance of holding the 4K Summit in Seville because it brought together, for the first time, leading companies from the world of content and technology. They insisted that both industries must be on the same page for 4K-UHD to move forward. To do this, it is essential to create top-quality content that attracts the end user, since this will be the one who decides whether Ultra High Definition succeeds or fails, as has happened on a commercial level with 3D.

Some of the most relevant data that came to light at the 4K Summit was offered by Jorge Rodríguez, from Hispasat, who assured that by 2020 there will already be more than 200 4K-UHD channels around the world, which can be enjoyed in more than 90 million homes with 4K televisions. By 2025, he estimates there will be 800 channels. For its part, the forecasts presented by Luis Sahún, from SES Astra, raise the number of Ultra High Definition channels within 10 years to around 1,200 globally.

“We conceive technology as a lever to reach our audience more and better,” said the Corporate General Director of RTVE, Enrique Alejo, in his closing speech at the first edition of the 4K Summit in Seville.

Antonio Fernández-Paniagua, from the Ministry of Industry, congratulated all the Spanish companies that "are at the forefront of technology, implementing 4K-UHD to their equipment." In addition, he highlighted the need for all actors in the audiovisual sector to find common ground so that 4K-UHD finally reaches the greatest number of users possible. “The 4K Summit has largely met its intended objectives and has contributed greatly to this sharing,” said Fernández-Paniagua.

In addition to the round tables and keynotes, attendees had the opportunity to enjoy the latest international productions in Ultra High Definition from production companies from Brazil, Mexico, Italy, Germany, Australia, France, Norway and Spain, such as The Beagle, Avis Producciones, Visom Digital, Kropac Media, Solenium Gang, Medina Media, Palearctic Films, Paramax Films, Artemisa Studio and Lovetheframe, among others.

The summit organized by Medina Media, a pioneer company in the use of 4K technology in Spain, and Comunicare Digitale already has a date for the 2016 edition. It will be again in Seville, on November 10 and 11, 2016.
