Cantabria TV closes
The local managed by Cantabrian Television Services (SETECISA), with fifteen years on the air, closes and fires 24 of its 27 workers.
Known until last year as Telecabarga, Cantabria Tv, managed by has closed after fifteen years of activity and has terminated the contract, according to EFE, of 24 of its 27 workers. Its manager, Servicios Televisivos Cántabros (SETECISA), has presented today an employment regulation file to the General Directorate of Labor of the Government of Cantabria.
Its director has explained to Efe that the main cause of the closure is the economic losses that the channel has suffered since its foundation and that have reached unaffordable levels for its shareholders, who until now have been covering the imbalance in their accounts. Cantabria Tv has made the decision to close as it does not see any prospects that the situation will improve in the short term.
The channel also states as a reason for its closure the delay in the granting of digital terrestrial television (DTT) licenses that were due to be granted to the Government of Cantabria. The channel had requested a regional license in the previous contest, but the procedure was declared void because the Government of Cantabria understood that the conditions of the call called into question the viability of the projects. He had also entered the contest that was called in his place, but which has not been resolved to date, despite the fact that a few weeks ago conventional television signals stopped broadcasting for all the municipalities in the eastern part of Cantabria, including Castro Urdiales, Laredo or Santoña.
With this closure, there are now three local channels that have disappeared so far this year in Cantabria, after Localia and Tú Televisión.
