Filming of 'Seve'

These days, various emblematic locations in Cantabria have become the natural setting for the first feature film dedicated to one of the most successful golfers of all time, the late Severiano Ballesteros.

The Real Golf club in Pedreña, his hometown, has been the place chosen to carry out the presentation to the media. Seve, the film that will show the beginnings, personal struggle and rise of a boy from humble origins to the world summit of this sport. The person in charge of emulating the two-time winner of the Augusta Masters among many other titles, will be the young José Luis Gutiérrez, who at 15 years old also fights and trains hard for what is his great passion, golf.

Ballesteros is a legend of world golf in his own right. He died in 2011 due to a brain tumor. He managed to win more than 90 titles, including two Augusta Masters, three British Opens and five Ryder Cups, as well as one more cup as captain and the Prince of Asturias Sports Award. in 1989, among many other titles and recognitions.

José Luis Gutiérrez, about to turn 16, has already earned a space among the promises of the world of golf in our country. This young Cantabrian, a member of his home team in the Spanish Interterritorial Championship with which he obtained second place last September in Salamanca, has won several trophies within his category. He started in this sport when he was only 6 years old and has already achieved a swing that is reminiscent of that of the teacher from Pedreña; “If I said no, what kind of actor would I be playing Seve,” jokes Gutiérrez.

The team

The feature film, whose international premiere is scheduled for April 2014, is being filmed in places as important in the life of this Spanish sports legend as Santander, Comillas or Pedreña. A team made up of 34 actors and 365 extras directed by John Paul Dadivson, a British filmmaker specialized in documentaries with a filmography that includes works for the BBC alongside Michael Palin (former member of Monty Python). Works recognized with multiple awards such as a BAFTA TV for the best photography for its Sahara with Michael Palin. Dadivson has also worked with other internationally known actors/comedians such as Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry. “It has been a really interesting experience and I have understood the love that Seve felt for his land,” says Dadivson, who mixes documentary and fiction in a work with which “we will get to know Seve.”

Written by Tom Hodgson and produced by Reinassance Films and Fishcorb Films in collaboration with Palamont Pictures, Seve It is a co-production between Spain and England that has a first-class team, among which stand out among other names: Stephen Warbeck, composer of such well-remembered soundtracks as “Shakespeare in Love”, for which he was awarded an Oscar, or Billy Eliot and Tariq Anwar, double Oscar-nominated editor for American Beauty y The king's speech.

Shot entirely in Spanish to maintain the authenticity of the project, in addition to José Luis playing a young Severiano Ballesteros, the feature film features other names such as Quim Ávila (Vicente), Maria Molins (Carmen), José Navar (Baldomero), Alvar Gordejuela ( Baldomero Jr.), Adrián Salzedo (Manuel) and Nil Cardoner (Rafa).
