Murdoch challenges Berlusconi again with free channel
After removing Mediaset channels from its Sky Italia platform, News Corp will launch a new free-to-air digital channel in Italy next December. The channel called Cielo, in line with its English channels Sky, will be based in Milan and will have a generalist approach face to face with the Mediaset and RAI channels.
With general content of its own and external production, with series, films or reality television programs, News Corp will launch a new DTT channel in Italy starting December 1 that will compete directly with the services of Mediaset and RAI. The commercial brand chosen by Rupert Murdoch will be Cielo, thus playing with Sky, the group's usual name in English. It should be noted that this new channel will not be under the direction of Sky Italia but will be directly supervised by the DTT channel division in Europe (except the United Kingdom and Ireland).
