LG announces at CES 2010 that it plans to include the most advanced 3D technology in a wide range of products that would range from LED televisions and plasma televisions to projectors. Coinciding with the event in Las Vegas, it will present new 3D televisions and mobile television devices, incorporating solar energy in many of its products.

Starting today, LG Electronics presents its technological innovations at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) focused on the company's commitment to making multimedia content more accessible to users, from anywhere. Woo Paik, President and Chief Technology Officer of LG Electronics, at the company's press conference yesterday in Las Vegas, commented that "this year, LG is focusing its efforts on a series of key innovations; such as 3D televisions, mobile digital television and a new solar cell business plan. 3D technology has reached an optimal level of development that will create new opportunities during 2010. LG plans to include the most advanced 3D technology in a wide range of products: LED televisions, plasma televisions and projectors.”

Mobile devices

At CES, the company is introducing the first DP570MH mobile DTV system, which also offers DVD playback, based on the new DTV mobile broadcast standard, co-developed by LG. Likewise, the company plans the launch in the US of new mobile phones and portable DVD players, equipped with a chip that allows it to receive the signal from television channels, so a significant demand for this new technology is expected. During the first quarter of 2010, 88 US networks will begin broadcasting on mobile DTV, which will allow 45% of households to enjoy this service.

Woo Paik also expressed confidence in the opportunities offered by the company's solar cell businesses going forward. “LG will double its solar cell production possibilities during 2011, with the aim of reaching gigawatt capacity in a few years,” commented the manager. In December 2009, LG carried out a production line with a total capacity of 120 mega watts.

The company spokesperson also announced that this year LG will launch new 480Hz LCD televisions, after the debut of the 240Hz models in 2009. Their regeneration or “refresh” speed will achieve optimal sharpness, eliminating blurry sequences and the optical illusion of permanent images, which is usually caused by the speed of action scenes.

Fifteen awards at CES

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) has recognized LG's excellence in design and technology, with fifteen prestigious innovation awards at CES 2010, including recognition of the 47” LG INFINIA Full LED Slim Backlit LCD HDTV (47LE9500) as best product in the Online Audio/Video Content category.

At the end of his presentation, Paik shared his vision for the future of LED televisions, showing for the first time an LED LCD screen that is only 6.9 mm thick. Regarding the field of new mobile technologies, Paik stated that “after managing to develop the world's first LTE chip last year, LG will soon launch a dual external device, compatible with the fourth generation of LTE and the third generation of EVDO services.”

LG unveiled the strategic products with which it will attack the Smartphone market during 2010, including the LG GT950 Arena Phone - which won the innovation award at CES 2010 -, LG GW820 EXPO - which uses the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system - and the Android-based GW620 model. In addition, the LG GW820 model offers a complete pack of advanced features and includes a 1GHz processor, making it the fastest Snapdragon-based terminal in North America.

Mobile phones have always been used to connect people; LG's GW620 and GT540 models now take this function to a new level, thanks to the optimization of specific features for the use of social networking services, such as Facebook.

Finally, LG has presented a revolutionary proposal: a wireless charging mat; the first solution in the world that allows up to three mobile devices to be recharged simultaneously and wirelessly, even allowing calls to be made during the charging process. To use it, the user only has to place the terminals on the mat.
