At the last Grammy gala, spectators following the ceremony at the Staples Center in Los Angeles were impressed by the projection of a 3D audiovisual montage tribute to Michael Jackson with the song 'Earth Song' as the protagonist. Now, we have learned that this stereoscopic projection was carried out in XDCAM HD 50 422 format, edited in Final Cut Pro and finally mixed for broadcast from a Grass Valley Kalypso.

At the recent Grammy ceremony, all attendees at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, and those privileged who followed the ceremony through CBS and had the 3D glasses supplied through the Target chain, held their breath when they saw the 'king of pop', Michael Jackson, coming to life thanks to stereoscopy.

The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), organizer of the awards, programmed an audiovisual montage inspired by Jackson's theme Earth Song, which was going to be one of the central moments of the concerts that the late artist was preparing. Simultaneously with the broadcast of the video, artists Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Smokey Robinson, Carrie Underwood and Usher performed the song along with the voice of Michael Jackson.

This was the first time that an awards ceremony carried out part of its broadcast in three dimensions, and now we have learned that this stereoscopic 'miracle' was possible thanks to Grass Valley and Sony. The 3D video was broadcast from the Grass Valley Kalypso production center mounted on a NEP Supershooters mobile located outside the Staples Center.
