According to the latest IABM report, the broadcast industry decreased by 7.2% in 2009, although it points out that in the last quarter of the year the decline stopped, pointing to a certain optimism.

Sales in the broadcast sector, according to the study that the International Association of Broadcasting Manufacturers (IABM) carries out periodically among 61 companies in the sector, fell by 7.2% during 2009.

This analysis shows that 47% of companies decreased their activity in the last year compared to the previous one, compared to 29% that increased their income.

Overall profitability was reduced by 12.5%, although overall profit from return sales remains at 11%, once again reflecting the structural changes that have taken place within organizations in order to remain profitable.

However, despite the pessimism, the IABM states in its latest report that in the last quarter of 2009 we witnessed an optimistic slowdown in the decline. "While the first three quarters of 2009 were very difficult for the industry, signs appear more positive at the end of the year. European-based companies appear to be recovering faster than North American ones," the report notes.
