Today at 7 pm at the Cervantes Institute in Madrid, the Madrid Ayuda a Chile collective, in collaboration with DOCMA-Documentary Film Association, the “El Ojo Cojo” Film Festival organizes Documentaries x Chile.
This exhibition, which has the support of the Chilean Embassy, through its Cultural Attaché Office, aims to raise funds for the Dr. Guillermo Grant Benavente Regional Clinical Hospital of Concepción. After the earthquake and subsequent tsunami that affected Chile on February 27, one of the most devastated cities was Concepción. Its regional hospital suffered serious damage that has caused a delay and postponement of the more than 70 operations that were contemplated in a normal month. The Dr. Guillermo Grant Benavente Hospital is the reference hospital for the entire Bío Bío Region, the second most important in the country, with a population of nearly 2 million inhabitants.
The films that will be screened, all by Chilean filmmakers who have transferred the rights for this event, are Children of Paradise, by Paola Castillo (2000), Schoolchildren continue to love, by Paco Toledo (2000), The joy of others, by C.Espinoza, I.Ormeño and K.Valdés (2009) and The Pinochet case, by Patricio Guzmán (2001).
The event will be attended by the director of the Cervantes Institute, Carmen Caffarel, representatives of the Chilean Embassy, as well as numerous personalities from the world of culture and cinema. The entrance fee will be four euros, the entire proceeds of which will go to the account of the Guillermo Grant Benavente Regional Hospital of Concepción.
