On June 17 and 18, the Academy of Television Sciences and Arts and the Menéndez Pelayo University organize in Madrid the fourth Meeting 'New challenges in digital television' in which Spanish and European professionals will debate, among other topics, the implementation of HD broadcasts, HBBtv and the digital dividend.

On June 17 and 18, the Academy of Television Sciences and Arts and the Menéndez Pelayo University organize in Madrid the fourth Meeting 'New challenges in digital television' in which they will debate, among other topics, the implementation of high definition broadcasts, the emergence of Broadcast Broadband and hybrid models, and the process of applying the digital dividend.

This meeting between professionals in the sector aims to publicize initiatives and experiences, exchange ideas and establish positions on the challenges that must be faced in the new digital framework. This meeting will be led by Eladio Gutiérrez, former president of Impulsa, and Pere Vila, director of planning and technological innovation at RTVE.

The inauguration on Thursday the 17th will be led by the president of the Television Academy, Manuel Campo Vidal, who will attend the first block of the meeting dedicated to the thorny issue of the digital spectrum in which Ricardo Alvariño, deputy director general of infrastructure and technical regulations of the SETSI, will participate; Josep Ventosa, director of new businesses at Abertis Telecom; and Elena Puigfagut, senior engineer at the EBU.

At mid-morning there will be a debate on the production and broadcast of high-definition content in which Adolfo Remacha, deputy technical director of Sogecable, will show their point of view; Amadeu Gassó, director of exploitation and production of Televisió de Catalunya; and Pere Vila.

In the afternoon, Inés Sanz Rodríguez, director of customer engineering at Hispasat, will talk about the current possibilities for HD broadcasting both on satellite and terrestrial. The first day of the meeting will conclude with the position of the platforms regarding the new audiovisual challenges.

Friday, 18

On Friday, June 18, it will open with the presence in Spain of Peter MacAvock, one of the most influential executives at the EBU and promoter of the DVB project. Next, we will learn about some of the experiences that are being carried out in Europe with the presence of Jon Piesing (Philips), Klaus Merkel (from the Dutch IRT) and Anthony Smith-Chaigneau (general director of Alticast).

For his part, Andrés Pedrera, technology director of iRTVE Interactive Media; José María Casaos, technical director of Antena 3; and Joan Rosés, director of Activa Multimèdia, will share their experiences and projects in Spain.

The meeting will be closed by Mª Cruz Díaz, vice-rector for academic organization of the UIMP.
