Brightcove presents its solution for video distribution on Android devices
Brightcove has presented a comprehensive solution for the distribution of high-quality video through mobile devices with the Android operating system. The platform's new suite of features, including the Brightcove software development kit (SDK) for Android and new mobile templates for Adobe Flash Player 10.1, extends both native apps and web experiences on mobile, enabling customers a wide range of video usage on Android mobile devices.
David Mendels, president and CEO of Brightcove, highlighted that "publishers want to ensure that their video content will be available regardless of the device or platform the user uses and that they can offer the same experience that is available on a PC, also through mobile devices. Brightcove is committed to eliminating the complexity and costs associated with publishing video on multiple devices and various platforms. Expanding the ability to distribute high-quality video on Android mobile devices with support for Flash Player 10.1 and our kit of software application development (SDK) are a clear example of how we are fulfilling this commitment.”
The Brightcove Android SDK provides a robust collection of resources for developers who want to create native video applications that consumers can download, install, and use on these types of devices. These resources include pre-installed components for playback, content discovery, and links to Brightcove APIs. In short, the SDK proposed by Brightcove will also allow content to be shared with a single click, on popular social networks such as Twitter and Facebook, navigation through Cover Flow playlists and the ability to display related video content.
Brightcove mobile templates for Flash Player 10.1 enable adaptation of the video output to the playback environment, providing an optimal viewing experience on mobile platforms, including Android devices. The templates offer user interface controls specifically designed to optimize video display on both the compact screens of Android devices and other market-leading smartphone platforms, as well as plug-ins available for standard video content published to the web with Brightcove. Mobile-optimized templates are available alongside Brightcove's full suite of player templates, fully compatible with Flash Player 10.1 and providing the benefits of secure multi-bitrate streaming, comprehensive analytics tools, advertising, third-party extensions, and other Flash platform innovations.
"Flash Player 10.1 delivers the full Web across all devices, including video, animation, audio, and other rich content. This gives content developers and publishers the ability to deliver value-added mobile content and applications to users, regardless of the device or platform they use. Brightcove's continued innovation around mobile video is essential to helping content providers deliver high-quality, Flash-enabled video on mobile devices around the world," said David Wadhwani, vice president. and general manager of Platform Business at Adobe.
Flash Player 10.1 for smartphones and tablets will now be available in the Android Market, once updated to Android 2.2. Also devices based on BlackBerry, webOS, Windows Phone 7 Series, MeeGo, LiMO and Symbian OS platforms will support Flash Player 10.1 and it is expected that it will come pre-installed in the coming months.
