Overon covers the World Cup with Newtec technology
For World Cup coverage, Overon has deployed 15 DSNGs, several flyaway stations and two redundant C-band stations located at the International Broadcaster Center (IBC) in Johannesburg. Newtec Azimuth modulators are used in all of them.
Azimuth modulators are helping the Spanish service provider to deliver signal coverage to the South African Championship to different broadcasters around the world. Thanks to this technology, the Overon team is being able to keep up with demand through very efficient use of the allocated bandwidth.
For World Cup coverage, Overon has deployed 15 DSNGs, several flyaway stations and two redundant C-band stations located at the International Broadcaster Center (IBC) in Johannesburg. In all cases it is using the new DVB-S2 Azimut modulators, and DVB-S with DVB-S2 upgrades for some of its existing modulators. Both access to sources located at the IBC and other occasional sources from the units are transmitted in DVB-S2, making optimal use of the limited capacity available during the championship, and at the same time, meeting the growing demand for transmissions in high definition and 3D transmissions.
Darío Garrido del Hoyo, from the RF engineering department at Overon, has acknowledged that "an event of this magnitude always creates many last-minute requests for service, and Newtek has been able to respond very quickly when we needed it. Our initial plans for the operation in South Africa fully justified the deployment of new resources to address the growing demand for services from Spanish customers."
