The Brazilian Globo TV has recently presented some of its latest proposals aimed at strengthening interactive television, satellite transmission and for rural areas and the dissemination of three-dimensional spaces.

During the World Cup celebration, Globo TV has launched an experience aimed at offering alternative content based on a hybrid model complemented by the Internet. This interactive content is also accessible from mobile phones, smartphones and tablets. An application for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch allows the viewer to have real-time access to the live broadcast, video on demand and other content.

With the aim of carrying out a hybrid broadcast with the highest quality, all content is broadcast in high definition at 1920x1080i. The technology implemented to achieve this image level allows a viewer with a 2 Mb connection to receive HD content in real time.

As for 3D, in addition to the 2009 and 2010 Carnivals, some World Cup matches in South Africa have been broadcast by Globo TV in stereoscopic via cable. Although Globo managers admit that "although 3D is still in a state of maturation, being a very complex issue and with a business model that is still an unknown, at Globo we are convinced that digitalization will offer a great leap in quality to offer stereoscopy."

On the other hand, Globo has also presented a digital television converter designed for low coverage areas in rural areas. The Brazilian broadcaster is also placing a screen on the Sao Paulo transportation network for the distribution of its programs (of the 300 screens installed, around 10% receive live programming, while the rest receive 3G data packages from various points in the city. Along with Globo's programming, other information such as the weather forecast or news is shown. Each screen has an internal antenna capable of capturing the 3G transmission at the same time as having a micro-emitter FM that allows each user to listen to programming with their own receiver.
