HaiVision Network Video has just introduced its new Torpedo family of DVB to IP gateways to the market. The objective of these gateways is to take advantage of any digital broadcast for distribution over IP networks without the need to re-encode the content. Torpedo collects a DVB digital RF signal from a satellite or terrestrial antenna, extracts and filters the MPEG-2 stream, and retransmits it to multicast or unicast to multiple UDP targets over an Ethernet interface. With a single Torpedo, an entire series of television or radio channels can be delivered to viewers over IP video networks.

Torpedo supports signals in both standard definition and high definition (HD) via satellite (DVB-S and DVB-S2) and terrestrial (DVB-T). It will also support the new DVB-T2 standard for high definition, due early next year. This new HaiVision system can be used stand-alone or integrated as part of the IP end-to-end video Furnace system. Furnace would thus control all the doors of the Torpedo, as well as the brand's Makito and Barracuda encoders. Additionally, Furnace can prepare streams for Torpedo gates with appropriate encryption and error correction, essential features for video over IP distribution.

Band optimization

In order to optimize bandwidth as much as possible, it has equipped its new Torpedo range with VF Transit technology that allows content to be offered on devices where bandwidth is a highly limited resource, such as mobile devices, working at bit rates that best adapt to the company's network and the viewer instead of those determined solely by the service provider.

The Torpedo is available as a stand-alone multi-channel support device, or as a 3U rack mount that can store up to nine systems. The new Torpedo are available immediately at a price of around $1,995.

La nueva familia Torpedo junto con otros productos de HaiVision y su tecnología VF Transit estarán disponibles en el stand de la compañía en IBC 2010.
