After the success of the first edition last February, Sony Professional has just announced a new call for the Sony PROduction Awards. These awards aim to offer aspiring video producers the unique opportunity to make their talent known to the world. This year's winners will receive a week's stay in Las Vegas during the NAB international broadcast fair in April 2011, as well as recognition and respect from the European video industry.

Those willing to take on the challenge must submit their video to the judgment of thousands of people, including members of the general public and a jury of Sony experts. To participate in the contest, candidates must enter www.productionawards.pro.sony.eu and send a three-minute video on a selected topic in which they will bring out the best of their talent. For the first time, applicants will be able to submit 3D and 2D video, helping them explore a new world of opportunities in submitted work.

As Bill Drummond, head of product marketing at Sony Professional, explains, "the Sony PROduction Awards represent a magnificent opportunity to bring to light the talent of people who would otherwise go unnoticed in such a dynamic and creative industry. The contest was a complete success in February, where 181 works were submitted and more than 25,000 votes were registered in less than 3 weeks. At Sony Professional, we are interested in providing the most creative minds with the latest technology. We once again undertake the search for people who can produce something truly innovative, without the need to provoke, regardless of their previous experience.”

Sony has announced that, for the first time, a special category will be established especially for young people aged 16-22. The “Shining Light” award will be awarded in recognition of the work of someone who reflects authentic creativity and enthusiasm in their video. Sony is collaborating with a number of academic institutions across Europe to give students the opportunity to win this competition with the help of Sony's video production experts.
