Great national talents participate in the new edition of the V Rizoma Festival

Until November 26, the festival will fill the Madrid Cineteca with the talent of seven young emerging directors who will compete for the V Rizoma Prize.

This afternoon the V edition of the Rizoma Festival with the premiere in Madrid of Lucky, director John Carroll Lynch's debut feature, in the last leading role of Harry Dean Stanton (Paris, Texas) before his recent death.

Until November 26, the festival will fill the Film library from Madrid with the talent of seven young emerging directors who will compete for the V Rizoma Film Award, international premieres, art, music, meetings, workshops and activities for all audiences.

The Rizoma Festival has established itself as the benchmark festival in the cultural calendar of the city of Madrid due to its diversity, as it is the only one that brings together in its programming the premiere of unpublished works in the capital both by established international creators and by young promises of Spanish and Spanish cinema.

Numerous names from different fields of the creative sector and the film industry will join Rizoma's programming. Among them, the multi-award-winning artist Juan Carlos Bracho stands out, who with his video installation Imitation of Life will invite us to reflect on what we perceive on a screen. Manuel Bartual, who this summer showed that it is also possible to sustain the suspense of a story with a tweet, will talk to us about Twitter as a narrative tool.

In this “fuzzy logic” that serves as the thematic thread of the festival, the Mongolian Darío Adanti will delve into the keys to quantum physics in Fuzzy logic for dummies.

There will also be a series of meetings, some of them with former friends of Rizoma. Within the framework of the festival, Time After will be presented, the latest work, currently being filmed, by the great master of Spanish cinema José Luis Cuerda, by its producers, Arturo Valls and Félix Tusell.

Brays Efe will be the protagonist of another meeting on the occasion of the screening of the first season of Paquita Salas, the web series directed by Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo.

After the screening of Women of the 20th century, a film by Mike Mills, the Women of the 21st Century meeting will take place, whose speakers include, among others, Macarena Gómez, actress of Pieles, by Eduardo Casanova, who will present her film in the section Size does matter of the festival; Virginia Yagüe, president of CIMA or Paola Álvarez, director of Der Norwak. In that same context, on Friday morning, a round table will address the past, present and future of distribution with Nieves Maroto (Super8), Marta Sánchez (PRAGDA) and Enrique Costa (Avalon), moderated by Gabriela Martí, director of Rizoma. There will also be room for the “feminist-Bakala” performance #Donasmoviles, by Marta Belenguer and Lorena López.

Other artists and speakers who will participate include Jimina Sabadu, Valeria Vegas, Borja Crespo and Manuel Valencia (Encuentros con la Serie B, 2000 Maníacos roundtable) and Pelacha Dj, offering a DJ/electronic music workshop at the Mujeres electro meeting.

Rizoma does not neglect the young group of festival spectators whom it encourages to become astronauts for a day by proposing an interplanetary trip through the Solar system (activity for children from 6 to 12 years old).

Finally, Niño de Elche will close the Festival by presenting the documentary A life in waves, que homenajea la figura de Suzanne Ciani, pionera indiscutible de la música electrónica y gran experimentadora a golpe de sintetizador. El domingo por la tarde el festival culminará con una fiesta con entrada gratuita en el Restaurante NuBel, donde se conocerá en qué película recaerá el V Premio Rizoma de cine, consistente en una ayuda a la distribución y fallado por un jurado presidido por el humorista Joaquín Reyes. En la fiesta pincharán varios DJs de la panorama actual, incluyendo al mismo Joaquín Reyes y Meneo.
