Dygra Films warms up in San Sebastián ahead of the premiere of 'Holy night! – Night of Peace?’ This Thursday the “work in progress” of ‘Holy Night!’ will be presented at the San Sebastián Festival. – Night of Peace?', the first Spanish animated film made in digital 3D.
The fourth film from Dygra Films studios, Holy Night! – Night of Peace?, currently in post-production phase, is awakening the attention of the film industry within the framework of the San Sebastián Film Festival, as it is the first Spanish animated film made in Digital 3D.
If on Thursday of last week, the director of the studios, Manolo Gómez, offered a presentation on Digital 3D, yesterday he gave a masterclass as part of the IX International Meeting of Film Students, which brings together students and teachers from centers from twelve countries around the world in San Sebastián. During the course of the event and taking as a starting point the production of Holy Night! – Night of Peace?, Manolo Gómez made an approach to the evolution and current situation of 3D, not only from the technological point of view but also from other angles, such as narrative and market opportunities.
In this sense, the director of the Dygra Films studios did not avoid controversy, ensuring that in a digital environment with great possibilities of reaching cinema screens, since there is no cost to make copies, the figure of the integrator represents a significant obstacle, to the extent that "he becomes the arbiter who decides what can be seen and what cannot. It puts in danger that independent cinema can be seen in the cinema."
Manolo Gómez also entered the field of illegal downloads of movies on the Internet (the vast majority) and pointed out that interesting initiatives such as Filmotech and Filmin are practically unviable in Spain as long as a law that protects the content is not modified, since they have to compete with free content offered by other websites without the consent of their creators. "Here we are seeing how the business of selling DVDs that moved hundreds of millions of euros has come to nothing, with no real alternatives currently existing to cover that space," said Gómez.
Dygra Native Digital 3D
On the other hand, Manolo Gómez presented the Dygra Native Digital 3D system, the company's own seal that guarantees a “native” production, designed and produced from the first moment in stereoscopic Digital 3D cinema. "With this seal - explained Gómez - we want to guarantee that, in the different steps of the production of the film, from the development of the script, it has been taken into account that we would have 3D digital technology as a tool at the service of the story. It is not simply a matter of splashing some striking effects throughout the footage, but of making 3D become part of the narrative language of the film."
This Thursday, September 23, Manolo Gómez presents in Donosti a “work in progress” of Holy Night! – Night of Peace?, screening an hour of film (about two thirds of it) to warm up the engines for its release next Christmas.
