Xarxa Oberta: Imagina and Axia will interconnect 696 buildings by fiber
The Telecommunications and Information Technology Center of the Generalitat de Catalunya (CTTI) has selected in a public tender the offer of the joint-venture formed by Imagina Media Audiovisual and Axia NetMedia Corporation to carry out the Xarxa Oberta project that will connect 696 buildings and 95 municipalities with fiber optics.
The Telecommunications and Information Technology Center of the Generalitat de Catalunya (CTTI) has selected in a public tender the offer of the joint-venture formed by IMAGINA Media Audiovisual and AXIA NetMedia Corporation to carry out the Xarxa Oberta project.
The Xarxa Oberta de Catalunya will connect the corporate headquarters of the Generalitat and the municipalities of Catalonia with fiber optics. Initially, it will be deployed in the headquarters with available infrastructure and to all the municipalities and headquarters of the Generalitat in the Ebro Lands. The selected offer allows the use of surplus capacity for the provision of connectivity services for the wholesale market to all the municipalities where the network is deployed. The Xarxa Oberta will initially connect 696 buildings and 95 municipalities.
Imagina and Axia will make it possible for the Xarxa Oberta to provide a great connection capacity, which will increase the productivity of public services in areas such as health, education, justice and security.
Imagina has extensive experience in IP networks as it currently manages one of the largest European audiovisual networks with more than 80 points throughout the Spanish State and internationally. With a management of more than 70 G of bandwidth, it is the first audiovisual network with convergence of IP services (the network transports, at the same time, video, voice, data), always guaranteeing the most priority traffic. The network transports, for the most part, audiovisual content with very high quality standards to avoid signal interruption in both high definition and standard definition.
This network is integrated with satellite teleports to be able to distribute the signal internationally, where it cannot be reached with IP fibers. Imagina also manages a CDN at the state level to carry out all types of content over the Internet up to capacities of more than 20Gbps and 20,000 concurrent users.
For its part, Axia NetMedia markets Real Broadband and next-generation passive network services implemented with Axia NGN Solution. Axia NGN Solution has been deployed in Alberta, France and Singapore. In Canada alone, Axia has deployed more than 15,000 km of fiber optics in the province of Alberta and has connected more than 4,900 government sites. In France, it has deployed more than 7,000 km of fiber optics and operates 14 neutral networks of local communities.
