Ship on Allure of the Seas: 3D on the high seas
Barco and FUNA International have partnered to develop projection, LED lighting, and different control solutions for the entertainment venues of Allure of the Seas, the largest cruise ship, built by Royal Caribbean International. It is the first stereoscopic projection room to be launched on a ship.
Taking advantage of Royal Caribbean's pioneering alliance with DreamWorks Animation to showcase first-run films produced by these studios, Barco has installed a DP2K 20-C digital cinema projector with DLP Cinema Texas Instruments technology. With a seating capacity of 1,400, the screening room on Royal Caribbean's new Allure of the Seas cruise ship is the first large-format stereoscopic installation to be installed on a ship.
Working in close collaboration with FUNA International, a company dedicated to engineering and integration, Barco has equipped other areas for entertainment on the ship with numerous equipment. For example, at the Amber Theatre, Broadway-style shows are presented such as Chicago: The Musical y Blue Planet Eight Barco DL.3F light and image projectors, two Axon media servers and a Road Hog multifunction controller have been installed. The DL.3F integrates a media server that hosts a large amount of digital content with a three-chip light engine output. DL.3F mounts like any other type of smart mobile luminaire and is equally easy to control with plug-and-play operation using standard DMX wiring and protocols.
In Studio B, the hall's dedicated ice skating venue, four DL.3Fs and four Axon servers are used to run a multimedia ice show. At the same time, several Olite 612 LED walls (1,944 mm pixels/12 pixel pitch) connected to Axon servers have been installed on the Royal Promenade, which hosts the parades and live shows, and the AquaTheater, an outdoor pool with a stage featuring aerial acrobatics.
