Spanish Television is carrying out the renewal process of the Betacam SX and Betacam IMX capture equipment, awarding Sony Professional more than two hundred XDCAM-HD (PDW-700) and HXR-NX5E.

Spanish Television, as a great promoter of the transition to high definition in Spain, continues its process of renewing equipment and changing to HD. For this reason and after the acquisition of three mobile units, through a public tender, it has carried out the renewal process of the Betacam SX and Betacam IMX capture equipment.

TVE has awarded Sony Professional the renewal of this equipment for the News and Documentary departments, in their Production Centers and Territorial Centers. Over a period of three years, Sony will supply more than two hundred XDCAM-HD (PDW-700) and ultralights.

The PMW-500 combines the exceptional image quality of the PDW-700 with the operational flexibility offered by solid-state SxS memory card recording. The PMW-500 is equipped with three 2/3" Power HAD FX CCD image sensors and is capable of recording 1080 and 720 HD images at 50 Mb/s. It is ideal for professionals like TVE looking for a versatile memory camcorder. In addition to TVE, other broadcast companies, such as RTL TVI from Belgium and WDR from Germany, had already placed large orders before the product shipped from the factory.

The PMW-500 camcorder represents a new step in the evolution of the XDCAM product range. This camcorder responds to user demand for an XDCAM HD422 memory device with the same specifications as the popular PDW-700 with Professional Disc, thus adding the possibility of a memory-based workflow like the XDCAM-EX range. Since 2003, Sony has sold more than 150,000 XDCAM units worldwide.
