Televisa expands its Tedial content management system
Tedial has announced that Televisa has once again trusted its technology to expand the system. In a first phase, Televisa Canales' MAM will be extended to archive material in HD, while in a second stage a backup system will be installed in Santa Fe to support Televisa's main tapeless system installed in Chapultepec.
Tedial, specialized in developing solutions for content management (MAM), hierarchical storage management (HSM) and process management (BPM), has announced that Televisa, one of the largest media companies in the world and which has been working with Tedial's content management system for years, has once again trusted its technology to expand the system.
The first phase of the project is the extension of Televisa Canales' MAM to archive material in HD. This is important as it not only enables HD media archiving but also automates the management of large HD files within Tedial's Tarsys MAM system at Televisa, including complete production and broadcast flows.
To support the HD material that is processed and moved around Televisa, Tedial will expand its Media Process Manager (MPM) system by including additional servers. Tedial's Ficus BPM flows will be configured to include the specific steps needed for HD files, plus the SD tasks already managed by the system.
The second phase of the expansion consists of the installation of a backup system in Santa Fe to support Televisa's main tapeless system installed in Chapultepec. This will provide a backup of everything broadcast by Televisa on the four main channels – Canal de las Estrellas, FOROtv, Canal 5 Reinventa and Galavisión – in the event that there is a system failure at the Chapultepec facility.
The third element is the distribution of commercials to Televisa's regional stations. Last year Tedial implemented a system to automate the commercial production and storage process using its Ficus BPM through web access and monitoring of centralized commercial storage.
Televisa has just requested the second part of the commercial distribution project. This implements the direct management of regional commercials, including the distribution and release of files, from the main repository in Chapultepec, to the corresponding regional television stations. The system's ability to make efficient use of high-latency networks is particularly notable.
Armando Medina, technical director of Televisa, has acknowledged having "a solid relationship with Tedial because the company has consistently demonstrated the strength of its support over the last six years. Its team of engineers is always available to solve the technological challenges and integration problems that inevitably arise when an installation is constantly expanding."
For his part, Rafael Dubois, commercial director of Tedial, commented that "Televisa has been using Tedial technology for the past 6 years and has great confidence in the system and the excellent capabilities of our engineering team. This expansion project greatly highlights its confidence in the reliability, scalability and competitiveness of the content management solutions that Tedial provides. I am delighted to launch this news at the NAB at this time."
