The fifth largest cinema chain in Spain trusts in Christie Solaria series projectors for its jump to digital.

Cinesur, the fifth largest cinema chain in Spain and the largest in Andalusia, has opted for digital cinema projectors from the Christie Solaria series for the digitization of its screens. The company owns 136 theaters spread across 11 multiplexes in Spain. So far, Cinesur has converted 15 of its theaters to digital and hopes to have at least half of its circuit digitized in the coming years.

Founded in 1932 and with more than six million viewers a year, Cinesur is present in different parts of Andalusia, Extremadura, Castilla la Mancha and Madrid. Its innovative nature within the sector led it to build the first large megaplex in Spain in 1998: the Nervión Plaza cinemas in Seville, with 20 screens. Continuing with this philosophy, in 2005 it opened the largest megaplex in Andalusia, Cinesur Málaga Nostrum, with 21 large theaters and more than 5,000 seats.

Sercine, Christie's partner in Spain, has been the company chosen by Cinesur to carry out the installations.

The first installation was carried out in October 2009 at the Cinesur Luz del Tajo Center (Toledo). At that time the Christie CP2000 series was still being marketed, so the projector installed was the CP2000-S. This installation was followed by three CP2000-ZXs: one at Cinesur El Ingenio (Vélez-Málaga), another at Cinesur Miramar (Fuengirola) and another at Cinesur Málaga Nostrum (Málaga).

Now, and with the new Christie Solaria series on the market, Sercine has installed seven Christie CP2220 projectors in the Cinesur Los Alcores (Alcalá de Guadaira), Cinesur Conquistadores (Badajoz), Cinesur La Verónica (Antequera), Cinesur Plaza del Mar (Marbella), Cinesur Nervión Plaza (Seville, two projectors) and Cinesur El Tablero (Córdoba) cinemas, and a Christie CP2230 in Cinesur Bahía from Cádiz (Cádiz).

The servers installed are from the Doremi brand, specifically the DCP-2000 and DCP-2K4 models. All digitized rooms are prepared for 3D, combining XpanD, Dolby 3D and Masterimage systems.

Compatible with all DCI (Digital Cinema Initiatives) specifications, the Christie Solaria range is scalable and perfectly suited for 4K digital cinema, thanks to the built-in Enhanced 4K DLP Cinema chip from Texas Instruments.
