Movistar TV launches the first 3D channel in Peru

The new channel will occupy frequency 700 of Movistar TV in Lima. The initiative is the result of a strategic alliance between Movistar TV and the programmer Movie City.

Movistar will add the first 3D content channel to its programming. With this launch, Movistar TV becomes the first pay television service in Peru and the entire Andean region to offer 3D content, consolidating its technological leadership in the market.

Additionally, Movistar announced a strategic alliance with Movie City, a leading movie streaming operator in Latin America, which will allow it to offer an exclusive catalog of 3D movies on its new signal.

"The 3D channel is the first and only one in the region and will occupy frequency 700 of Movistar TV. This channel will be part of the HD packages that we currently offer to our digital service customers. Customers will be able to watch 'exclusively' movies, trailers and documentaries in 3D, on a channel with a prime time slot from 7 to 9 pm. On Saturdays, the premieres will be broadcast and will rotate during the week," said José Miguel Gamero Savastano, General Manager of Telefónica Multimedia-Movistar TV.

Gamero Savastano added that in recent years Telefónica has invested more than US$ 10 million in the continuous improvement and modernization of its High Definition digital platform. "At Movistar TV we are not satisfied; in addition to our exclusive channels, we already offer 19 high definition channels, the largest and best offering on the market. The launch of the 3D channel is proof of the commitment to offer our customers more and better content and technology, at no additional cost," he said.

For his part, Ignacio Landeta, Commercial Director of Moviecity, said "We are very happy to be able to deliver our 3D movies with Movistar in Peru. It is very important to open a new technological window so that all this content reaches our subscribers. This initiative will be very well received by those who own this technology and reinforces our message that we are the Best Premium Video Experience in Latin America."
