The president of the RTVE Corporation, Alberto Oliart, communicated this morning his decision to resign as president of the Corporation to the RTVE Board of Directors. The head of public radio and television has explained that this is an “irrevocable and immediate effect” decision based on “strictly personal reasons and mature reflection.”
At the beginning of the Board of Directors, the president of the Corporation communicated his decision to resign and has stated that his reasons are “strictly personal” and that he responds to a decision “that has been matured for some time.”
Alberto Oliart has also communicated this same decision to the president of the Congress of Deputies, the institution on which the Corporation depends, by means of a letter. In this, the president of the Corporation explains that he has made the decision to resign at this time for "reasons of a strictly personal nature and mature reflection." He assures that his decision is “irrevocable and of immediate effect.”
Alberto Oliart highlights in his letter what has been the main commitment during his mandate: "My immutable objective, in accordance with the Law, has been for RTVE to be plural, independent and of the highest possible quality, within a continuous demand for austerity and savings; aimed at informing and also entertaining all citizens; committed to defending the fundamental rights enshrined in our Constitution, especially the rights of women and those of the weakest, also those most affected by the economic crisis that we are suffering, the unemployed.”
In his communication, Alberto Oliart also highlights that he feels “proud to have led professionals of extraordinary worth, deserving of my respect, admiration and gratitude”, who have facilitated his work to achieve “a plural and independent public radio, television and website”.
The president of RTVE emphasizes that for him it was “an honor” to be appointed on November 24, 2009 “by a large majority of the deputies and without any vote against, Director and President of the RTVE Corporation, in accordance with the provisions of Law 17/2006, of June 5, on state-owned radio and television.”
