GY-HM150 ProHD, the heir to the robust HM100 arrives
JVC has announced at IBC the launch of the new GY-HM150 ProHD portable camcorder. has also announced the introduction of a new digital signal encoder and processor.
Based on the robust design of the popular GY-HM100, currently used by thousands of photojournalists in the world's leading production companies, the new GY-HM150 that JVC presented in Amsterdam has been developed to manage the demanding news and production environments. The company has also announced the introduction of a new digital signal encoder and processor, which has been adopted from the JVC 700 series of cameras and which provides enhanced HD recording and adds support for standard definition (SD).
With a 3CCD sensor, the GY-HM150 offers comprehensive 1080p, 1080i and 720p HD recording in a wide range of frame and bit rates. JVC Native File Recording, the industry's fastest shoot-to-edit workflow, provides native .mov files for Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere, plus .MP4 files for other NLE systems. You can also record to SD (480i) as standard files (.AVI or .MOV).
Like other ProHD models, the GY-HM150 records to non-proprietary SDHC cards, but also accepts the new SDXC cards that are currently available with capacities up to 128GB. In addition to relay mode for uninterrupted recording, the camcorder allows simultaneous recording to memory cards for instant updates or backups.
“The new GY-HM150 offers a familiar, easy-to-use form factor that includes new production features that customers have been demanding,” said Craig Yanagi, director of marketing and brand strategy. "Although its weight only reaches 1.36 Kg. including the battery, it has performance that is comparable to that of much larger and more expensive cameras. In addition, the option of being able to record in SD is very important for many broadcasters and other video professionals who have not yet made the transition to outdoor HD production," he added.
A new Pre Rec (retro cache) feature continuously records and caches up to five seconds of footage, helping to avoid missed shots on breaking news. It also includes a new time-lapse recording option. With the GY-HM150's new Clip Cutter feature, excess footage can be trimmed from the beginning or end of shots stored in the camera, reducing file size and conserving card space.
