ProHD Compact Studio: JVC turns the popular GY-HM150 into a studio camera

The new ProHD Compact Studio system, consisting of the HZ-HM150VZR ProHD lens remote control and DT-X71 ProHD monitor, turns the popular GY-HM150 into a studio camera.

Converting the popular GY-HM150 handheld camcorder into a studio camera will now be possible thanks to the new ProHD Compact Studio system that JVC will launch on the market. This system consists of the HZ-HM150VZR ProHD lens remote control and the DT-X71 ProHD monitor.

Specially designed for the GY-HM150 by VariZoom, the new HZ-HM150VZR connects to the right side of the camera with a simple 3.5mm connector. Offers professional zoom control via a variable sweep balanced axis. It also allows adjustment of focus and iris, as well as start/stop function. Beyond typical studio setups, the HZ-HM150VZR is ideal for operating the GY-HM150 when mounted on a boom or crane.

As for the DT-X71 monitor, it is a seven-inch portable computer (AC/DC) that has three models with input/output options and an adjustable 16:9 / 4:3 screen according to needs. These LCD monitors with 1024×600 resolution offer a viewing angle of 160 degrees and a contrast of 900:1, and also have dual tally and secure viewing marks depending on format.

When mounted on the GY-HM150, the DT-X71 thus serves as a full-size studio monitor.

The GY-HM150 ProHD handheld camera, designed for news production and demanding production environments, has a 3-CCD sensor and Fujinon HD lens with 10:01 zoom, and can work in Full HD 1080p, 1080i and 720p (as well as 480i SD) in a wide variety of frame and bit rates with recording on non-proprietary SDHC and SDXC cards.

One of the advantages of this camcorder is that it provides native .mov files, with direct editing with systems such as Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere, or MP4 for other non-linear editing systems. Other features include simultaneous recording from two cards for backup or client copy, Pre Rec (retro cache) so you don't miss anything, and time-lapse adjustment option.
