Post-production company Prehistoric Digital has opted for Barco's new DP2K-P digital cinema projector, specifically designed to meet the high-performance requirements of the post-production sector.

When Prehistoric Digital decided to upgrade their post-production projector after several of their clients' films found favor with audiences at the Sundance and South by Southwest festivals, they contacted Moving Image Technologies, a partner of Barco, to get the DP2K-P projector in order to obtain the improvement in quality they were looking for. This post-production company specializing in digital color correction, designed and built its new studio around this projector, which has the high-end features normally associated with more expensive post-production systems.

Kevin Cannon, one of the partners of the Los Angeles-based company, wanted the best technology to position the firm in larger independent productions. “After seeing some demos of the Barco DP2K-P, we knew it would meet our standards for absolutely clear imaging and color accuracy,” said Cannon. "There is no doubt that what we are seeing on the Barco projector is 100% accurate. The DP2K-P will be a great advantage as our business grows and will be essential in selecting opportunities in the future," he added.

Prehistoric Digital has used the DP2K-P for post-production work on a new independent film titled “Northeast”, written and directed by Gregory Kohn, which will premiere during the month of October in various US cities as part of the ‘On the Road’ series at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Bevan Wright, Executive Vice President of Operations at Moving Image Technologies, said, "My experience is that the Barco DP2K-P is a great projector for the post-production community. The color space is huge, field uniformity is near perfect, and the special post-production version of Barco's Communicator software gives you full control of image parameters with great ease of use. We are highly recommending it to all of our customers looking for a high-end post-production projector. capacity and precision and at the same time it is also affordable.”

The new DP2K-P projector is part of the DP2K-B series, characterized by efficient light optimization, lower cost of ownership and operation, and easy use. It integrates a 1.2" DLP Cinema chip from Texas Instruments, with a future option for 4K compatibility. To prevent dust from entering the chip, the projector is equipped with a patented, hermetically sealed case, which guarantees brightness and contrast do not decrease over the years and allows the use of reusable air filters, another first in the industry. Thanks to its DMD, it improves the cooling system, thus extending its useful life.
