The city council of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona) informs municipal radio and television workers of the closure of these media starting next year.

The City Council of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona) has informed municipal radio and television workers of the closure of both media starting next year.

Ràdio L'Hospitalet has been operating since 1982, it depends on the municipal company La Farga and its closure will involve the presentation of an Employment Regulation File (ERE). On the other hand, municipal television is a concession to the production company Lavinia that ends in December and would not be renewed.

The mayor of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Núria Marín, has justified the closure because they are two services that are economically unsustainable and "not a priority" in the face of the crisis.

The closure of both media is one of the elements of the Mandate Economic Plan that the City Council has prepared to face the crisis after there has been a reduction in municipal income and contributions from the Generalitat and an increase in the demand for social aid.

According to the workers' representatives, the works council has presented various alternatives to management, such as lowering salaries or changing the model, which the municipal government team has opposed.

The number of workers affected by this closure would exceed 60.
