Connected TV and ultrabooks, protagonists at CES 2012
CES 2012 will be an excellent opportunity to take the pulse of smart television and check Google TV's reaction to an increasingly competitive market.
CES 2012, the world's largest event dedicated to consumer electronics, opens its doors this Tuesday and until Friday in Las Vegas. If the previous edition was flooded with tablets, this time it will be the year of ultrabooks. These ultralight laptops will monopolize the majority of mobility product announcements, and it is expected that more than fifty products will be presented.
One of the doubts raised by this strong emergence is whether these portable PCs could pose a threat to tablets at a time when these devices are already in the midst of an incipient price war. It is noteworthy that tablet sales are currently concentrating in mature markets, and despite the absence at CES 2012 of two of its main manufacturers, Apple and Amazon, numerous demonstrations of tablets interacting with other devices in both signal distribution and control could be expected at this fair.
In terms of mobile telephony, since the Mobile World Congress gained momentum, the Las Vegas event has become a mere procedure for smartphone manufacturers waiting to announce in Barcelona, from February 27 to March 2, the news for this year. The arrival of the Intel Atom brand of processors for smartphones that run the Android operating system, developed by the Open Handset Alliance and Google, could give an unusual boost to this market.
