The TVN group has updated its TVN-Ü2HD mobile unit for high definition and 3D production. The remote connections of the twenty cameras used in the truck are carried out with Riedel MediorNet while for intercom Artist has been chosen with fifty control panels and Miranda's NVision as the matrix.

German audiovisual services group TVN has updated its TVN-Ü2HD mobile unit for high definition and 3D production. TVN has also completely redesigned the mobile's entire audio system, integrating a Lawo MC256 digital audio matrix and an intercom system based on two Riedel Artist digital matrices (Artist 128 and Artist 32) with a total of fifty Artist 1000 control panels.
At the heart of the TVN-Ü2HD we find five MediorNet acting as pre-routers for a total of up to 32 HD-SDI signals connected to eight stageboxes. These are based on MediorNet and provide bidirectional transport over a fiber connection for four 3G, eight HD or thirty SD signals, as well as audio, intercom or data control such as TCP/IP or RS232/422.

As MediorNet is based on a real-time network with an arbitrary number of different topologies, signals can be routed not only through the stageboxes and the mobile unit, but also between the stageboxes individually or from one of them to several.

Total flexibility

Wolfgang Peiss, sales director at TVN Mobile Production, has drawn attention to this aspect, stating that "the connection between the stageboxes through MediorNet allows us to transport a large number of different signals such as video, audio and GPIOs. Thus, we significantly reduce the time we need in deployment and configuration. In addition, it makes our system much more flexible, being able to instantly modify the routes between stageboxes without any problem.

The Lawo audio matrix and the Artist intercom are connected to the MediorNet network via MADI, while the NVision 8208 matrix of Miranda It is connected via coaxial cable. MediorNet not only provides real-time synchronization throughout the network, including the stageboxes, but also distributes synchronization throughout the entire system.

The Frame Store Synchronizer integrated into all inputs allows asynchronous synchronization of BlackBurst or TriLevel signals.

MediorNet also offers the possibility of synchronizing with an external clock that, if it fails, would regain control. When the sync source came back online, MediorNet would adjust the clock in small steps so that the external masterclock source would eventually become the reference again.

Embedding and de-embedding software integration or timecode insertion into all inputs and outputs eliminates the need for external devices.

Integrated system control is carried out through LSB's Virtual Studio Manager (VSM). Every change to the MediorNet system can be carried out with MediorWorks software for configuration, monitoring and control.

In addition to the VSM panels on the mobile unit, complementary VSM panels can be incorporated via the MediorNet Ethernet ports.

Christoph Moll, engineering director at TVN Mobile Production, has pointed out that "our mobile unit is used for the production of events and sports. The possibility of having not only MADI, AES and analog inputs and outputs, as well as the large number of connections for Ethernet, VSM control, cintercom panels and complementary units, allows us to carry out productions in very different scenarios with total flexibility and agility."
