Together with Río de Janiero and Belo Horizonte, the operator will initially launch the service in around twenty cities in the country.

Throughout this second half of the year, the Brazilian operator Oi will launch its new IPTV service. This will be supported by the technology of Alcatel-Lucent and the platform Microsoft Mediaroom.

Together with Río de Janiero and Belo Horizonte, the operator will initially launch the service in around twenty cities in the country.

To ensure maximum quality of service, Oi is deploying a new fiber optic network that will connect customers' homes, and provide access to high-speed Internet and landline telephony.
The service will allow customers to access content on tablets, smartphones and PCs with services such as VOD and Catch-up TV, and access to social networks.

Alcatel-Lucent will provide iO Content Delivey Network (Velocix), a quality management service (Motive) and its technologies for access over VDSL2 (copper) and GPON (fiber optics). Alcatel will also be responsible for the integration of the Microsoft Mediaroom platform for IPTV.

Eduardo Aspesi, Director of Segments at Oi, has assured that "the launch of IPTV benefits consumers because it provides a more interactive and complete television experience. In addition, it allows the generation of income for the company with value-added service offers. With this new service, Oi reinforces its strategy of convergent offers."

Francisco Valim, president of Oi (former Telemar) has highlighted that of the total investments planned for 2012 (US$3 billion), more than half will be used for the expansion of its network infrastructure, mainly to increase capacity and speed, and increase coverage along with the launch of new services.
