Alcatel-Lucent and Telefónica enable cloud DVR and delayed playback services for Movistar TV customers in Spain
Alcatel-Lucent cloud DVR technology is the foundation for personal network recording services and innovative features.
Alcatel-Lucent and Telefónica have enabled new cloud-based TV delayed playback capabilities on Movistar TV, Telefónica's pay TV service.
With these new capabilities, Movistar customers can have personal network storage space for up to 350 hours of recording through their decoders with a service that allows access to all the desired channels at the same time. In addition, an innovative TV mosaic service in the most relevant sporting events allows users to choose between 6 different signals in the live broadcast.
The personal network recording service, available since February 2014, provides each Movistar customer with simultaneous and unlimited channel recordings and up to 350 hours of network DVR storage.
The Mosaic service, launched in March 2014, is an interactive service available for major sporting events and based on Alcatel-Lucent's 5910 Video Services Appliance that allows users to switch between 6 different live camera focuses.
It is noteworthy that Alcatel-Lucent is also a partner of Telefónica in its fiber-to-the-home deployment closely linked to Movistar Fusión's service offering.
Roque Lozano, CEO of Alcatel-Lucent Spain, commented that "as Telefónica expands its fiber-to-the-home network, it expands its Movistar TV customer base. The success of the new capabilities incorporated into the service moves us to explore solutions to increase the capacity and efficiency of the platform to respond to the rapid customer growth expected in the coming year."
