After the sale of Microsoft's 50% stake in the news portal, and on the same day that the service turned 16, MSNBC.com changes its name, now operating as NBCNews.com.

Comcast, the parent company of NBC, has bought 50 percent of the stakes of Microsoft in MSNBC.com for around 300 million dollars (about 245 million euros), assuming full control of the information portal

On the same day that the service turned 16, MSNBC.com was renamed last Sunday night, just a few minutes after the announcement of the operation, as NBCNews.com.

NBC and Microsoft joined forces in 1996 to create a cable news channel and an online news operation that merged the television channel with then-emerging Internet technology.

For its part, Microsoft is finalizing the launch of its own information portal for the umbrella. Despite the launch of NBCNews.com, MSNBC.com will continue to exist as the MSNBC channel website.
