Indra leads the ADAPTA project, aimed at the personalization of digital content
The objective is to offer users information and services based on their own interests. The solution will be tested through two pilots: an interactive panel located in a high-traffic public space and a hotel's digital television.
Indra leads the R&D&i project ADAPTA: Technologies for the personalization and interaction of digital content, whose purpose is to develop innovative technological solutions that allow recipients of audiovisual media to interact with personalized digital content in different scenarios of daily life.
ADAPT seeks to promote the consumption of audiovisual content, based on the user's preferences, and that they are delivered to consumers in a personalized, dynamic and non-intrusive way. The final objective is to create a system capable of offering multimedia content and advanced personalized interactive services of interest to different groups of users, including the group of people with disabilities.
To this end, the project contemplates the development of technological solutions that collect information on characteristics, preferences, trends, consumption habits or even emotions experienced when receiving these contents, thus adding to the system the ability to provide feedback and “learn” by itself what contents to finally offer to each of the recipients.
The interaction with the user (both in the collection of data for the development of content and in its consumption) will be based, among others, on Microsoft's Kinect gesture recognition technology, currently widely used in the world of video games. Thanks to this solution, recipients will be able to interact with the content without having to have physical contact with the broadcasting platform through a natural user interface that recognizes gestures, voice commands, objects and images. In addition, sensors and microphones will also be used to capture the auditory information generated by the recipient and facilitate their own interaction with the system.
The ADAPTA project has a global budget of 2.5 million euros thanks to the Feder-Innterconnect program, which promotes the development of innovation projects with international projection. In addition to Indra, which is in charge of coordinating the consortium, companies specialized in Information Technologies, media and telecommunications, such as Grupo Secuoya, Ingenia, Wellness Telecom, Below Group and Tedial, are part of it. Likewise, research centers such as the Foundation for Research and Development of Information Technologies in Andalusia (FIDETIA) or the universities of Seville, Málaga, Granada and the Polytechnic University of Madrid also participate in the initiative.
Pruebas en dos entornos turísticos
Para garantizar su utilidad y aplicación futura, el proyecto ADAPTA será probado a través de dos pilotos centrados en el turismo, por ser éste uno de los principales activos de la economía andaluza.
The first of them will be implemented in a public space with high traffic yet to be defined and will serve to offer travelers, especially in the summer period, content of interest with which to make their stay in this region more pleasant. An interactive panel will capture the characteristics of those who pass by through the application of person identification technologies and based on already established parameters (such as their characteristics, gestures or physical appearance). The result of this prior analysis will be the issuance of advertising or informative information attractive to the recipients, such as activities, places to visit or typical products to consume in the city and its surroundings.
On the other hand, the second pilot will take place in a hotel environment and will focus on providing personalized services to customers through digital television. In this way, promotional or advertising content of real interest to the viewer will reach each television. To do this, HBBTV technology will be used, which facilitates the broadcast of on-demand content by combining broadcast and broadband services. The consumer will thus be able to learn useful information for their objectives or instantly access interactive products and games with the possibility, in addition, of interacting naturally with these contents.
The ADAPTA project will make possible the automatic generation of personalized content, providing the user with materials of their choice, and giving companies important competitive advantages, given that the recipients are aware of this content and are specifically interested in it. The resulting solution will be of special interest for the advertising market, since it will facilitate the reception of user preferences and make it possible to design content that, specifically, meets their real demands.
It will also be of special relevance in the field of Advanced Interaction since it not only recognizes consumer preferences and designs tailored solutions, but also facilitates, through the latest technologies, the constant relationship between the consumer and the system, so that it can continue to evolve and adapt its services. For example, when showing certain products, the system will offer the consumer to continue advancing in their knowledge with possibilities to know where to buy them, offers, characteristics, etc.
In addition to its innovative aspect, the importance of ADAPTA lies in its conception as a new tool for social interaction and participation. The project will allow users to access the activities and possibilities offered by digital content, interacting with them and improving their information and leisure options. The results of the project may also be applied in many other sectors, such as health, marketing, industry, banking, transportation or security.
At the forefront of interactive services
With this project, Indra reinforces its experience in creating interactive services for television, where it heads some of the most significant projects currently being developed in this field.
This is the case of the InmersiveTV R&D&I project, whose purpose is to investigate technologies for the production of immersive digital content to boost the viewer's feeling of integration with television, far beyond current 3D techniques. Immersive television aims for the viewer to experience in first person the action that surrounds them, feeling part and protagonist of it and facilitating their interaction with the scenario in any spatial dimension.
The technology multinational also leads the international R&D&i project SeniorChannel, which aims to create an interactive Internet television channel for older people and in which this group can enjoy personalized content, interact, share knowledge and experiences, as well as have fun creating their own programs.
