Indra coordinates the consortium of companies participating in the 'Adapta: technologies for the personalization and interaction of digital content' project, such as Secuoya, Ingenia, Wellness Telecom, Below Group and Tedial.

Adapts The technological multinational Indra leads the R&D&i project Adapta: technologies for personalization and interaction of digital content, whose purpose is to develop innovative technological solutions so that users interact with personalized digital content in different scenarios of daily life. This solution will be tested in two pilots: an interactive panel located in a public space and another will be installed on the digital TV of a hotel.

He project It has a budget of 2.5 million euros, is part of the Feder-Innterconnect program of the CDTI and is co-financed by the Technology Fund of the European Union and the Regional Government of Andalusia.

Indra is in charge of coordinating the consortium of companies that participate in it, such as Grupo Secuoya, Ingenia, Wellness Telecom, Below Group and Tedial.

In addition, research centers such as the Foundation for Research and Development of Information Technologies in Andalusia (Fidetia) and the universities of Seville, Malaga, Granada and the Polytechnic of Madrid also participate in the initiative.

The objective of this R&D&i project is to promote the consumption of audiovisual content, based on the user's preferences, and to deliver it to consumers in a personalized, dynamic and non-intrusive way, the purpose of which is to create a system capable of offering multimedia content and advanced personalized interactive services of interest to different groups of users, including the group of people with disabilities.

To this end, the project contemplates the development of technological solutions that collect information on characteristics, preferences, trends, consumption habits and even emotions experienced when receiving this content, thus adding to the system the ability to provide feedback and 'learn' by itself what content to finally offer to each of the recipients.

Interaction with the user (both in the collection of data for the development of content and in its consumption) will be based, among other technologies, on Microsoft Kinect gesture recognition. Thanks to this solution, recipients will be able to interact with the content without having to have physical contact with the broadcasting platform through a natural user interface that recognizes gestures, voice commands, objects and images. In addition, sensors and microphones will also be used to capture the auditory information generated by the recipient and facilitate their own interaction with the system.

AdaptsPilot projects in the tourism sector

To guarantee its usefulness and future application, the Adapta project will be tested in two pilots focused on tourism, as this is one of the main assets of the Andalusian economy. The first of them will be implemented in a high-traffic public space, yet to be defined, and will serve to offer travelers (especially in the summer period) content of interest with which to make their stay in this region more pleasant.

An interactive panel will capture the characteristics of those who pass by through the application of person identification technologies and based on already established parameters (such as their characteristics, gestures or physical appearance). The result of this prior analysis will be the issuance of advertising or informative information attractive to the recipients, such as activities, places to visit or typical products to consume in the city and its surroundings.

The second pilot will take place in a hotel environment in order to provide personalized services to customers through digital television. In this way, promotional or advertising content of real interest to the viewer will reach each television. For this, HBBTV technology will be used, which facilitates the broadcast of on-demand content by combining broadcast and broadband services. The consumer will thus be able to learn useful information for their objectives or instantly access interactive products and games with the possibility, in addition, of interacting naturally with these contents.

Production and editing of digital content

The Adapta project has different work packages, such as the production and editing of digital content, focused on the development of mechanisms for the generation of improved audiovisual digital content in personalization and interaction scenarios for public and private environments. It will analyze activities aimed at exploring new automation capabilities for audiovisual production and the generation of new final content, combining original materials and their metadata.

In addition, the possibilities offered by graphic renders with great processing power for the creation of virtual scenarios will also be studied; the different options for capturing, processing and presenting images in stereoscopy (3D) and high image resolution (4K) environments, graphic integrations (2D and 3D modeling) of market products within sequences already created (Virtual Product Placement) and transversal lines of work will be opened for implementations in HBBTV environments and by segments, with special attention to those for public use and advertising.

Benefits of Adapta

This project will make possible the automatic generation of personalized content, providing the user with materials of their choice, and companies with important competitive advantages, given that the recipients are aware of this content and are specifically interested in it. The resulting solution will be of special interest for the advertising market, since it will facilitate the reception of user preferences and make it possible to design content that meets their real demands.

Another benefit of the project is in the field of advanced interaction, since it not only recognizes consumer preferences and designs tailored solutions, but also facilitates, through the latest technologies, the constant relationship between the consumer and the system so that it can continue to evolve and adapt its services. For example, when showing certain products, the system will offer the consumer to continue advancing in their knowledge, with possibilities to know where to buy them, offers, characteristics...

The importance of Adapta also lies in its conception as a new tool for social interaction and participation. The project will allow users to access the activities and possibilities offered by digital content, interacting with them and improving their information and leisure options. The results of the project may also be applied in many other sectors, such as health, marketing, industry, banking, transportation or security.

Interactive television services

With this project, Indra reinforces its experience in the creation of interactive services for television, where it directs some of the most significant R&D&i projects that are currently being developed in this field, such as InmersiveTV, to investigate technologies for the production of immersive digital content and promote the viewer's feeling of integration with television, far beyond current 3D techniques.
