Scandinavian consortium Nordif3 chooses Tedial for cloud content sharing project

The five public television stations in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland will have a network content exchange platform thanks to a solution from the company Tedial, which has just been awarded a contract to provide the Scandinavian consortium Nordif3 with a cloud solution, based on its own Media Amigo product.
The installation, where Tedial will be the sole supplier, will be carried out with the Norwegian systems integrator Mediatek, a specialist in television systems based on IT technology.
José Mesas, general director of Tedial, highlighted that "this is a very important content exchange project, after having installed the FORTA (Federation of Autonomous Radio and Television Organizations) system in Spain. Both solutions are an excellent reference for other facilities that need to share content over the network."
The platform will be hosted in Oslo at the headquarters of NRK, Norway's public television. The project is completely based on a Tedial solution that will allow the consortium to share material from their own headquarters. Each television will be able to subscribe to certain types of media, automatically receiving the files when they are ready.
The Scandinavian television consortium, created in 1959, is made up of the five public television stations Norsk Rikskringkasting (NRK), Danmarks Radio (DR), Yleisradio (YLE), Ríkisútvarpið (RUV) and Sveriges Television AB (SVT) from Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Sweden, respectively.
Archive and storage
The installation, which will be completed in August, also includes Tedial's archiving and storage systems, providing each television with a gateway to upload and download material from the platform. Through a web application they will be able to search, edit and review media on said platform.
Jørgen Scheel, general manager of the integration company Mediatek, emphasizes that this project "is very important for both Tedial and Mediatek since it allows both to be present in the five Nordic countries. At the beginning of the tender, the consortium thought that the required solution did not exist in the market and that to meet the requirements of the tender a custom one would have to be developed. However, Tedial has a solution already tested in the FORTA system of Spain and “which has convinced the engineers of the Nordic televisions.”
FORTA's content management and exchange system is designed as a centralized network in which the different television stations and associated institutions contribute their images to the corporate archive and can in turn draw on those of the rest for use in the field of their own television. The integrated and automated system is capable of accommodating Nordif3 content and the material contributed by its members with the important addition of web publishing and access to the archive via the Internet.
The increasing volume of content exchange by the Scandinavian television consortium and the value of the material that the partners contribute make it essential to establish a new program distribution system, including high-definition files. Thanks to Tedial's technology, a stable and easy-to-use system will be achieved for the distribution of content and for the development of new ways of cooperating.
In addition to strengthening the sense of community in the region, Nordif3 also creates added value for participating companies. The companies cooperate in order to achieve greater programming and better public service at a lower cost. Its main activity is the co-production of web programs and projects, exchange of media and professional experience.
The Tedial company has been recognized as one of the five companies in the world with the most future in the DAM (Digital Asset Management) market or digital resource management for radio and television by Gartner, the North American consulting firm with the most global prestige in the field of information technologies. Its products are implemented in more than 50 companies around the world and it is the leader in its sector in Spain and Latin America. In 2012, Tedial is obtaining important contracts around the world thanks to its advanced products, currently among the best on the market thanks to the team of more than 70 engineers working in R&D&I. In Turkey, the Spanish company has entered for the first time to digitize the historical archive of the national television, TRT, where it is renewing its archiving system and workflows.
In addition, the largest audiovisual company in Latin America, Televisa, has once again trusted Tedial technology to modernize its news archiving system. In January of this year, the company based in the PTA of Malaga received the 2011 National Computing Prize awarded by the Scientific Computer Society of Spain (SCIE). The award, obtained in the Mare Nostrum category of “Innovative Companies”, recognized Tedial “as an example of a successful case of transfer from the academic world to the business world.” Finally, Tedial is also undertaking one of the largest video digitization projects in the world: the digitization of the historical tape archive of Radio Televisión Española (RTVE).
