Level 3 Communications has announced the expansion of its set of video streaming services, Vyvx Solutions, in Latin America. Starting now, this high-definition (HD) quality service, which takes advantage of Level 3's IP fiber network, will be available in the region for video streaming and media customers to contract and manage.

Level 3's Vyvx Solutions now offers broadcast companies, sports organizations, studios and media companies in Latin America the ability to transmit their high-quality video content within the region or to anywhere in the world. To date, Level 3 has signed contracts with companies in the region to transmit more than 35,000 hours of video over its network.

“The implementation of cutting-edge technology and services for digital video transmission is a key aspect in the global development of telecommunications and media infrastructure throughout Latin America,” commented Elia San Miguel, principal research analyst at Gartner, a leading research company in the sector. “Brazil, in particular, is investing heavily in infrastructure ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games.”

A significant number of radio and television broadcasting companies in the region have recently begun using Vyvx Solutions, with the aim of expanding their presence within and outside of Latin America. Among them are the sports events station ESPN Brasil; Terra, global digital media company and content producer; and TV Azteca, one of the largest producers of Spanish-language content programming worldwide.

“Having the right technological partner to broadcast competitive events is essential for us, since it is imperative for TV Azteca to provide quality coverage that makes our viewers feel that they are witnessing such events live,” said Pedro Carmona, Director of Special Events Engineering at TV Azteca. “We are very excited to have the capacity to realize the first transmission of its kind, 100 percent based on fiber optics.”

“Level 3 is proud to offer Vyvx Solutions to its clients in Latin America and around the world who are looking to expand their presence in Latin America to meet the ever-growing end-to-end video distribution needs,” said Leonardo Barbero, senior vice president and chief marketing officer of Level 3 for Latin America. “We look forward to increasing our existing customer base by offering scalable, flexible transmissions via satellite and fiber optic networks.”

Level 3's Vyvx Solutions have a reputation and track record of excellence in the United States and globally. The entire set of Vyvx video transmission solutions is fully customizable, adapting to the transmission of any type of event from various locations.
