The lenses Cooke miniS4 are becoming increasingly popular, with many international film, television and commercial productions currently using these small, lightweight lenses to bring warmth and character to digital images.

Recently the rental company supplied two units consisting of RED and Cooke miniS4/i cameras for a six month shoot called Rebel Land – The New World, a fictional series on the Italian public radio television RAI.

Marcelo Camorino, director of photography, commented, "The combination of MiniS4/i lenses and digital capture with RED MX and EPIC cameras has provided excellent results in terms of texture, contrast and resolution. During the 24-week shoot of Rebel Land – The New World, the combined package was used intensively under many different lighting conditions and I am completely satisfied with the final result.”

One of the most popular miniS4/i sets comes with uncoated front elements, which gives a very particular image to the digital material. “We have seen that our cinematographers really liked the behavior of these uncoated lenses, since it is more similar to the old lenses, in particular the effect obtained with digital cameras, since the images are not as 'sharp' and the cinematographers like the soft and flattering effect more for aesthetic-related work,” says Musitelli.
