'Hospital Central', the longest-running television series in Spain, ends its broadcast in its 300th episode
Renowned film directors such as Gracia Querejeta, Miguel Albaladejo, Miguel Bardem, Álvaro Fernández Armero, Belén Macías and Jorge Sánchez Cabezudo have directed some of the 300 episodes of the popular series.
Chapter 300, in which the outcome of the plot starring actress Blanca Portillo in the role of a former police officer who suffers from psychological problems, will put an end to the series. Hospital Central, which this Thursday, December 27, definitively closes its Emergency service.
Previously, the longest-running television fiction in Spain, produced by Videomedia, will broadcast a special, as a summary, with the best moments that have occurred throughout its 12 years of broadcast and 20 seasons on Telecinco.
Balance of 12 years of Hospital Central
- The series will reach its 300th episode tomorrow after 20 seasons in 12 years of television history.
- 61 regular actors, led by Jordi Rebellón -Dr. Vilches-, have been part of the choral cast of “Hospital Central”. Notable, in addition to those mentioned in the current stage, are Alicia Borrachero, María Casal, Patricia Vico, Fátima Baeza, Jesús Olmedo, Marisol Rolandi, Nacho Fresneda, Diana Palazón, Luis Marco, Laura Pamplona, Adriana Ugarte, Elia Galera, Iván Sánchez, Roberto Álvarez, Beatriz Segura, Carolina Cerezuela, Carles Francino, Marian Álvarez, Fran Perea, Juana Acosta, Pedro Casablanc and Adriana Torrebejano, among others.
- Some 4,500 figures from the Spanish scene, more or less known, have participated as episodic actors or “cameos” in one or several chapters of the veteran series, notable among them Concha Velasco, Concha Cuetos, Silvia Tortosa, Lolita, Victoria Abril, Verónica Forqué, Luisa Martín, Fiorella Faltoyano, Álvaro de Luna, Jorge Sanz, Emma Suárez, Ana Obregón, Javier Elorriaga, Mª Luisa Merlo, María Barranco and José Luis López Vázquez.

- The production team has traveled to India, Guatemala, Peru and Cambodia, where the sequences that have been part of some of the 300 chapters have been recorded and have served to denounce situations of child neglect.
- In its medical plots, the series has addressed highly topical clinical cases (domestic violence, drug and alcohol addictions, poisoning, elderly and rare diseases, among others) and large-scale events such as a plane crash or an earthquake.
- About 100 people have been part of the two teams that have worked simultaneously: one outdoors and the other on set.
- Some 3,000 liters of liquid that simulates blood have been used for the recording of the 300 chapters, in which some 75 women have given birth and more than 700 characterizations have been carried out (burns, wounds, skin diseases, etc.).
- Hospital Central It appears in the ranking of the national series that have attracted the largest number of viewers. The most watched episode, the one broadcast on January 25, 2005, registered 6,572,000 followers and the one with the highest screen share was the one on June 26, 2002 with a 37.2% share.
- The series has also enjoyed the support of critics and its honors include an Ondas Award for Best Television Series (2005), TP de Oro Award for Best National Series (2006), ATR Award for Best Television Series (2002), Zapping Award (2003), ATEA Award (2003) and APEI Microphone Award 2003, among other awards.
