NHK will take a new step towards 8K at NAB 2013 Labs Futures Park
The broadcaster will carry out demonstrations in Las Vegas with 8K images and 22.2 multichannel sound (including content produced in collaboration with the Olympic Broadcasting Service and the BBC during the London 2012 Olympic Games).
The Japanese public broadcaster NHK will present the latest version of its super Hi-Vision system at NAB 2013. Advances on the road to 8K can be seen in Las Vegas in the “Labs NAB Futures Park”, a new area reserved for research related to the dissemination and development of projects around the world.
The broadcaster will carry out demonstrations with 8K images and 22.2 multi-channel sound (including content produced in collaboration with the Olympic Broadcasting Service and the BBC during the London 2012 Olympic Games).
The 7680 x 4320 video format provides 16 times more pixels than high definition, providing a truly unique quality and immersive experience. The multi-channel audio system contributes to this sensation as a 3D sound space is generated that places viewers within the action area in a completely immersive way.
In addition to the theater presentation, NHK will also show over-the-air transmission/reception in Super Hi-Vision for the first time outside Japan, using only two UHF television channels.
NHK also plans to showcase its latest developments in production technology including the new 120 Hz Super Hi-Vision camera, as well as the first compact camera of this format and a 22.2 multi-channel sound production system. The interactive capabilities of a broadband and broadcast convergence can also be seen at NAB under the concept of “Hybridcast”.
