Pixemetrix OMG

Pixelmetrix has just updated its OTT Media Grinder (OMG) solution, intended for the validation of Over-The-Top distribution infrastructures. As part of OMG's global analytics engine, this new feature exposes the key factors that contribute to and lead to quality issues in OTT services.

Danny Wilson, president and CEO of Pixelmetrix, commented that "Service Quality Factor Analytics is one of the improvements added to OMG. Intelligent data management across thousands of simulated customers within OMG allows potential problems in OTT environments to be shown at a glance. Despite operational pressures and cutbacks, service quality remains important. Now, we can help operators optimize and troubleshoot arduous tasks or obscure problems related to OTT delivery. This update by OMG is available as a free download for our customers.”

The OMG simulates thousands of OTT clients (iPhone, iPad…) with multiple user-defined behaviors, that is, some clients may, for example, consume content until the end, while other clients may randomly change speed, or similarly adapt connection drops or 'flaps' between bitrates.

To quantify the unique QoS/QoE performance factors for OTT, Pixelmetrix has also developed the VideoMargin metric system that provides a comprehensive view into OTT delivery. With network measurement, HTTP and video layer performance, VideoMargin measures up to seven parameters for every aspect of content delivery relating to server, network, authentication, individual and collective client behavior.
