TEC de Monterrey

The Tecnológico de Monterrey (TEC) has integrated The valley Media Life as main production, MAM and integrated distribution system for the Internet dissemination of its conferences and congresses for more than thirty university centers. Dalet also manages the automatic transcoding and publishing of materials for the provision of Internet services, which has become an increasingly important part of the University's system.

Dalet Media Life is based on the Dalet MAM platform, which manages all media files and their metadata through different systems. Media Life includes many Dalet applications, which the TEC Virtual University uses for critical operations such as media management, ingestion, registration, recording, editing, dissemination and archiving.

Dalet Media Life also offers many creative toolkits for content production. The MAM layer in Dalet Media Life handles the media, metadata and all media manipulations that are involved in the production of the entire distribution chain.

In the production center of the Virtual University of TEC Monterrey, users ingest material from Sony XDCAM-EX cameras. The Dalet Xtend module facilitates the seamless exchange of content and metadata between Dalet and Apple Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere. Directly from their non-linear editing workstations, editors have access to media and metadata stored in the Dalet content catalog. Many pre-production tasks such as selecting clips and storyboards can be performed using Dalet's fast pre-editing tool and then automatically exported to edit bays for more complex editing. The finished work can be exported back to Dalet as a new title, or stored with its corresponding metadata entries.

Once the material is approved, the Dalet MAM engine controls the metadata and communication processes and automatically exports the packages that are converted to H.264 format for publication on the internal e-Learning portal, which is the main distribution platform of the Virtual University.

Four large classrooms at the TEC are fully equipped for Dalet broadcasting as if they were studios, simultaneously transmitting recording sessions for video-on-demand delivery. In each class, operators use a Dalet workstation to insert any pre-produced video and record the classes as a live show. Once the class concludes, and the material is approved, Dalet automatically exports the video to the e-Learning portal services.

The facility features an 18 TB Omneon Grid server (700 hours in XDCAM 50 format), Rhozet transcoders to automatically convert high-resolution streams to H.264 and MPEG formats, and a XenData HSM system to control the tape library that has a capacity of 2,400 hours in XDCAM 50 format.
