The new Telefunken M82 dynamic microphone, now available
The M82, introduced at NAMM 2013, is a robust dynamic microphone featuring a large 35mm diaphragm, offering excellent low frequency performance.
The new Telefunken M82 large diaphragm dynamic microphone, which follows the same design approach as the rest of the microphones in the company's popular and appreciated Dynamics series and which was presented at the last NAMM 2013 fair, is now on the market.
Hand-assembled at the company's Connecticut facility, the M82 is a robust dynamic microphone that features a large 35mm diaphragm, and offers excellent low-frequency performance. It is an “end-address” type microphone, which means that it focuses the upper part of the grille on the sound source, and has two separate EQ switches: KICK EQ and HIGH BOOST, which work independently, offering four different settings through the possible combinations, which allows the response of the microphone to be adapted to the sound source.
The M82's Kick EQ switch activates a passive filter that reduces some of the lower-midrange frequencies (centered around 350Hz) commonly cut off when processing a kick drum. This prevents the kick from sounding clipped and keeps the sound powerful. This configuration is specially designed for use with the kick drum sound.
The High Boost switch boosts high and midrange frequencies, starting around 2kHz with a 6dB boost up to 10kHz. For bass drum use, this allows for greater attack when placed inside the bass drum. This provides the option of having a vintage style kick drum sound, or a more modern sound. For a source such as vocals or guitar amplifier, the treble boost provides greater articulation and lightness in the upper register
Although the Telefunken M82 has been primarily designed for Kick Drum applications, the two Kick EQ and High Boost switches make it also suitable for use with vocals, percussion, broadcast vocals, guitars, basses, organs and brass instruments.
This model adopts the same body style of the classic U47 by employing a grille of similar architecture. Its finish is black, both on the grill and on the body, and it has been rigorously tested to ensure that it could withstand the demands of a kick drum microphone for both studio and live performance.
The Telefunken M82 is supplied with a stand mount adapter, a padded zippered bag, and a mic cable with an angled connector. As an optional accessory, an elastic suspension bracket is available.
