Ericsson launches new advanced media management service
Ericsson proposes an end-to-end platform that will allow broadcasters to deliver content to their audiences anytime, anywhere
As part of a campaign to offer a portfolio of advanced services to broadcasters, Ericsson will present its new media management services at IBC 2013. Managed services are established to advance content preparation by broadcasters with countless playout capabilities while ensuring efficient delivery of content on the Internet and mobile devices anytime, anywhere.
Thorsten Sauer, director of the broadcast services unit at Ericsson, maintains that "with the massive growth in global media consumption, broadcasters and media outlets have to process much higher quantities of media in an increasing number of formats if they want to reach their audiences on any screen and any device. Our new media management services eliminate this complexity, offering a comprehensive solution for the preparation and delivery of unified content. This ensures that broadcasters have the flexibility and scalability they need to enable them “Better focus on your brand, your content and delivering a high-quality viewing experience to your customers.”
Ericsson's media management services comprise two new solutions: Managed Media Preparation and Managed Media Internet Delivery. Together, the two services offer a single, end-to-end solution for broadcasters to easily and seamlessly deliver content to their audiences anytime, anywhere.
This media preparation platform enables the management of multi-format rich content for linear broadcast, streaming, non-linear delivery and mobile with maximum efficiency, reducing time to market by handling large amounts of media quickly and efficiently. Through new automation, workflow process management and desktop tools, Ericsson's proposal uses real-time information, control and automated dashboards that help broadcasters in their multi-format and multi-platform distribution. This gives broadcasters remote access to tools and services so they can explore and enrich content and metadata on their own desktops in real time while the content is well digitized and stored in an Ericsson facility.
Additionally, the managed media preparation service reduces time to market by handling large quantities of media quickly and efficiently, regardless of time zone or geographic location, while optimizing interactions between media owners and Ericsson.
For its part, the Managed Media Internet Delivery service allows combining Over-the-top (OTT) delivery and broadcasting of content to consumers, expanding and enriching the audience's experience in an OTT environment.
This managed service eliminates the complexities and challenges of implementing television services to bring broadcasters up to speed by allowing them to deliver services over the Internet over a large number of connected devices.
This new offering builds on Ericsson's success in broadcast services, which was launched in 2007, and will be launched through Ericsson's broadcast facilities in 2014.
