Bill FeightnerColorfront has named Bill Feightner as new chief technology officer. Feightner's appointment to Colorfront coincides with his recognition of the Technicolor/Herbert T. Kalmus Medal awarded by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) for his broad contribution to the art and science of motion picture digital imaging.

Based in Los Angeles, California, Feightner will manage Colorfront's services and consulting. It will also drive the development of tools in new areas of color and imaging, calibration, remote operation, collaborative production and post-production.

Feightner is a well-known professional in the Hollywood digital cinema community for the development of countless innovations and his more than 35 years of experience in the sector. He now comes to Colorfront with a deep understanding of its technology having worked closely with the company on file-based workflows, pioneering digital intermediation processes.

He began his career at Compact Video, later moving to Laser Edit and Composite Image Systems (CIS). He was also co-founder and most recently CTO and executive vice president of technology at Efilm Digital Laboratories (Deluxe Entertainment Services Group).

At Laser Edit, Feightner created a live, real-time, multi-layer visual effects compositing system, and continued this pioneering approach at CIS, where he helped develop the 2K telecine system that revolutionized the interactive image compositing process for feature films.

At Efilm its innovations include new software for digital laboratory calibration; a multisite end-to-end image processing and management software; world's first fully digital programmed DI pipeline in We Were Soldiers (2002), and the world's first 4K intermediate in Spiderman 2 (2004).
