Riedel provides mass communications and signal distribution at the Winter Games
A Riedel Mass Cast system including 14 transmitters and thousands of receivers and headsets played a key role during the Games opening ceremony.
A fiber-based network with MediorNet technology from Riedel It is serving as a transport for high-definition video, audio, data and intercommunication during the celebration of the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi (Russia). On the other hand, a Riedel Mass Cast system that includes 14 transmitters and thousands of receivers and headphones played a key role during the opening ceremony of the Games. On the occasion of the closure, it will also have a determining role.
Marc Schneider, international project manager at Riedel Communications, admits that "Riedel's flexible, reliable and powerful equipment has made us the preferred choice for transporting signals and communications for large-scale, high-profile live events. The solutions we are offering in Sochi build on the successful deployment of the London Games, and we are confident that they will serve as another example of how Riedel's expertise and technology helps live event producers deliver incredible and unforgettable broadcasts."
During the Games, Riedel's compact MediorNet modular systems have been deployed in dual-redundant rings to serve as a highly reliable fiber backbone network for the transport of high-definition audio and video (with timecode), data and intercom signal transport within the stadium and other venues connected to the International Broadcast Center (IBC). On the other hand, a total of eighteen Riedel Artist digital matrices with intercom mainframes and a set of headphones and bodypacks have supported a good number of reliable and flexible communications at the different competition venues.
Within Fisht Stadium, a MediorNet infrastructure, which includes multiple interfaces and repeaters, supports wired and wireless Ethernet distribution, facilitating the programming, coordination and execution of different tasks during the opening and closing ceremonies, coordinating, for example, light effects and the movement of scenic objects of all types.
Coordinated by Riedel, a total of ninety discrete audio channels, 1,300 radios and 1,000 headphones are being used for this installation. The massive deployment of Mass Cast in the stadium has also allowed the artists to have audio at all times throughout the ceremonies.
