Riedel MetroN streamlines signal distribution at Red Bull Air Race World 2015

By deploying the new MetroN core matrix together with the MediorNet real-time network, both of Riedel Communications, has allowed the development of an advanced signal distribution infrastructure at the Red Bull Air Race World 2015. Throughout the season, this new solution allows the necessary hardware to be reduced by 75% while considerably reducing the necessary bandwidth.
Routing countless real-time signals at 640 gigabytes in just 2 RU equipment is now possible with Riedel's MediorNet MetroN fiber array. In addition, users can configure the entire infrastructure in a robust and highly redundant way with less hardware and cabling.
The addition of this fiber array to MediorNet systems typically deployed for the Red Bull Air Race World Championship facilitates the transport of large volumes of high-bandwidth signals without compromising network flexibility.
During the air races, each of the 14 participating planes is equipped with two high-definition cameras, one in the tail of the aircraft and another in the cockpit, which are controlled remotely from the ground. Both video signals and telemetry from the aircraft reach the ground via Riedel RF links. These video signals and data are routed to race control, individual equipment and the TVN mobile, in charge of institutional production for Euro TV, through the MediorNet network, which also facilitates the distribution of the video captured by the additional cameras on the ground.
MetroN allows all signals to be moved in high definition to the main production control room, the video walls on the ground where spectators can follow every detail of the test and race control. Since IT data is optimized through these MetroN systems, Riedel is able to provide the entire IT backbone for each event without additional cable. To integrate the event's main mixing console, Riedel technicians interconnect audio signals via MADI using the Riedel RockNet digital digital audio solution in combination with MediorNet.
Riedel's Artist digital matrix intercom system facilitates all communications for event production teams, and the company's wireless products meet the communication needs of commissioners, directors and judges. With Artist as the communications backbone, Riedel's Juggler allows you to seamlessly integrate a trunked TETRA radio installation with more than 500 handheld digital radios, many of which support emergency services and various in-flight operations.
The Riedel RiFace interface also supports the integration and use of analog radios. For races where the test does not take place in the immediate vicinity of the host airfield, as occurs in Spielberg, Austria, Riedel's STX-200 interface for Skype Professional makes it easy and cost-effective to maintain video transmission and communications between each driver and team.
