Canon launches two new compact camcorders: XF205 and XF200
The new XF205 and XF200 represent the natural next step in the evolution of our XF range, offering enhanced functionality whilst improving image and audio quality.
Canon has expanded its professional video range with the launch of the new XF205 and XF200, two new compact camcorders.
Based on the features of the Canon XF105 and XF100, both have been improved taking into account feedback from professionals working in various fields. Both cameras further expand the capabilities of the
Versatility
The new cameras have been designed to allow users to achieve the best results with a compact camcorder. By combining outstanding image quality and new professional features, these camcorders offer the flexibility camera operators need to produce higher-level work. Both models incorporate the Canon HD Video system and include significant improvements.
Each camcorder features a 26.8mm wide-angle Canon HD lens with 20x doubled optical zoom, working in conjunction with Canon's latest HD PRO CMOS image sensor and powerful DIGIC DV 4 image processor. Combining 50Mbps MPEG recording with 4:2:2 color sampling delivers video quality suitable for television broadcast, with high sensitivity and dynamic range providing excellent results, even in low light situations.
CMOS HD PRO image sensor
The XF205 and XF200 are controlled by a Canon HD Video System, which includes a Canon HD PRO CMOS sensor, type 1/2.84, capable of meeting the needs of the new 20x wide angle zoom lens. The sensor enables a higher effective resolution of approximately 2.91 megapixels, with a native Full HD recording resolution of 2.07 megapixels, providing spectacular levels of detail, sensitivity and dynamic range.
The highest number of pixels is possible thanks to the great power of the DIGIC DV 4 platform, exclusive to Canon. Designed and built to work together, the advanced sensor architecture combines with the state-of-the-art DIGIC DV 4 image processing system to reduce image noise and increase sensitivity.
Recording options
The various recording options provide the flexibility to simultaneously record high-definition MXF files to CF cards and MP4 files to an SD card, in HD or lower resolutions, ideal for both TV and web recording.
The design of the new cameras has been optimized to offer operators a tool that is completely intuitive to use. The new rotating grip provides additional control and stability, reducing fatigue and ensuring greater comfort during long recordings. Three new individual rings on the lens for focus, zoom and iris respectively provide a setup that is familiar to experienced camera operators and allows for faster response in the most dynamic recording environments.
Significant improvements have also been made to ensure easier recording framing and monitoring. The optimized viewfinder offers a resolution of 1,230,000 dots, allowing for much more precise focus checking. An improved 3.5-inch (8.8 cm) OLED display also provides higher contrast, richer colors and faster response times, making it far superior in performance, especially in bright environments.
Professional audio and connectivity
Enhanced audio recording ensures professional-quality sound suitable for television use. Both models have a four-channel linear PCM recording system, with two XLR inputs, which allow the use of professional-level microphones. With their built-in stereo microphones and a 3.5 mm microphone jack, the new camcorders offer users a wide range of audio options.
Both models have Wi-Fi and Ethernet LAN connectivity, allowing direct or wireless connection to a wide range of devices, such as smartphones, tablets and laptops. Wireless connectivity offers the freedom to control the camera and view recordings remotely, as well as transfer files conveniently and easily via FTP, without the need for additional software. Additionally, the new CameraAccess feature allows you to continuously send lower quality proxy files to other devices via Wi-Fi, improving the speed at which content, such as breaking news, can be shared.
The XF205 further expands connectivity options, with the inclusion of 3G-SDI/HD-SDI, Timecode and Sync (Genlock) terminals for easy integration into multi-camera recording or other television equipment.
The XF205 and XF200 will be available from mid-July 2014, and are previewed at NAB 2014.
