The Spanish startup for buying and selling second-hand products through mobile phones has launched its first advertising campaign on TV and print media, after six months of existence in which it already generates more than 10 million euros per month in transactions between users, with a catalog of more than 2 million products.

Wallapop

Wallapop, the Spanish second-hand products application, has reached an agreement with Atresmedia by which the communication group takes a stake in its shareholding, through a 'media for equity' model. Adding its contribution to those of Grupo Godó and Grupo Zeta, already present in the shareholding, the innovative Spanish start-up has an investment of 1.3 million euros in advertising space in the different media that make up the three communication groups.

The incorporation of a new partner from the media landscape accelerates the launch of Wallapop's first national advertising campaign, with a strong impact on all types of media, from print and online press to radio and television.

For Miguel Vicente, co-founder of Wallapop and founder of LetsBonus, "the 'media for equity' model gives us access to a key asset for a startup like ours: visibility to the end user. The campaign we started this week will allow us to critically increase our user base, and will make it easier for Atresmedia and the rest of our investors to increase the profitability of their commitment to this new second-hand market through mobile."

In just six months of operations, Wallapop already moves more than 10 million a month in transactions between users, thanks to a catalog of more than 2 million products, generated by its more than 1 million users. The start-up had already raised 1.5 million euros of investment from leading investors, such as Caixa Capital Risc, the Bonsai venture capital fund, ESADE Ban and the Antai business angel network, founded by Gerard Olive, Marta González and Miguel Vicente and Esade Ban, in addition to having support from ENISA and the ICF (Institut Català de Finances).

For his part, for Javier Nuche, general director of AtresMedia Diversificación, this operation means "participating in a project that fits perfectly with our strategy as it is a business with great growth potential and the capacity to generate value. Our contribution aims to serve as an accelerator for a business that, in a short time, has proven to generate a lot of interest among the public."

In Wallapop, it is the users themselves who manage their sales and purchases among themselves. The ease and dynamism of the process makes the quantity and variety of items extraordinary. Another characteristic surprise factor of this application is that that object that you were looking for and that you just found may be a few meters from where you are. The application has remained in the Top 10 of the ranking of most downloaded applications for iOS and Android – more than 1 million users have installed it on their devices since its arrival on the market half a year ago – and the catalog of available products now amounts to more than 2,000,000 products.
