The Turkish Nuri Bilge Ceylan won the Palme d'Or at the 67th annual Cannes Film Festival ceremony for his film Winter Sleep, with the help of Gökhan Tiryaki at the helm of photography.

The award-winning film, shot with a CineAlta F65 Sony, tells the story of a family who runs a hotel in the snowy mountains of Cappadocia.

Nuri Bilge CeylanCeylon's films are known for their beautiful photography and long takes, and the aesthetic appearance of his films is of great importance. Therefore, the choice of cameras is very thoughtful.

To Winter Sleep, Ceylan chose to record with a Sony CineAlta F65. "We carried out a comparison before starting and, as soon as I saw the results, I decided to opt for the F65 camera since it made a big difference. It is the first time I have seen something that is better than 35 mm," acknowledges the director.

“What attracts me most about the F65 camera is the resolution, the natural colors and especially the skin tones that are achieved,” continues Ceylan. "Since the quality was so high, I thought 4K would give me more freedom to manipulate the images if necessary. I think that freedom is very important for a filmmaker. Currently, the F65 is the best 4K camera out there."
