TVE 1 premieres the documentary this Sunday La Roja: from Brazil to Brazil, a co-production of Televisión Española and Tornasol Films directed by Gracia Querejeta and scripted by Antonio Mercero. A work that seeks to portray Spanish society through football and its national team, which shows its evolution from the 1950 World Cup in Brazil to the one that will be held in a few days. In addition, it has numerous testimonies from personalities from fields such as journalism, culture or sports. After its premiere, it will arrive on La 2 on Wednesday, June 11.
How does football explain the Spanish reality? Can a country be x-rayed using its national team as a model for analysis? 'La Roja: from Brazil to Brazil' aims to do so, if only to demonstrate that reality is a more elusive concept than it seems.
Spain is a complex country, made up of very diverse autonomous communities, some of which have their own language and very powerful nationalist currents. However, in the Spanish team there are footballers from Madrid, Basques, Catalans, Andalusians, etc., and the collaboration of all has built a champion team.
In South Africa 2010, the World Cup that crowned Spain as champion, the core of the team was made up of six players from Barcelona and five from Real Madrid. The rivalry that exists throughout the year between these two teams does not seem to affect the coexistence of the players in the concentrations of the major tournaments. How do they manage to put aside their differences and focus together on the common goal?
Added to the sociological analysis is a review of the history of the Spanish team, “from Brazil to Brazil”: from Zarra's goal against England in the 1950 World Cup in Brazil, to the next championship that starts in just a few days in that country. The documentary is built with valuable archive images and the testimony of those who have lived that story and those who have told it.
La Roja: from Brazil to Brazil It has the participation of personalities such as Vicente del Bosque, Emilio Butragueño, José Antonio Camacho, Luis Figo, José Ángel Iríbar, José Antonio Martín 'Petón', Miguel Pardeza, Andoni Zubizarreta, José Luis Garci, Iñaki Gabilondo, Fernando Savater, Manuel Vicent, as well as TVE professionals such as Silvia Barba or María Escario, and other sports journalists such as José Ángel de la Casa, José Ramón de la Morena or Alfredo Relaño.
A documentary by Gracia Querejeta with a script by Antonio Mercero and production by Mariela Besuievsky, the same team as the film. 15 years and one day. It will premiere on Sunday, June 8 at 11:30 p.m. on La 1 and can be seen again on La 2 on Wednesday the 11th at 9:00 p.m.
